Turning Plastics Back to Oil
It has been reported that an Oregon plastics-to-oil company Plas2Fuel has announced plans to build a plant in the Portland suburb of Tigard by the end of 2010.
They claim that this plant will be able to produce over 500,000 gallons of crude oil per year from scrap plastic.
“It’s a place to do customer demonstrations and visits, R&D, and conduct tours and training,” commented company CEO Chris Ulum. “Ultimately though, our model puts the technology where the waste is, rather than the other way around. We license the technology to agencies and recyclers for installation at their sites.”
There are other plastics-to-oil firms , and if this technology proves effective and efficient, this decade can see companies providing the world with millions of gallons of reclaimed oil, diesel and gasoline from scrap plastics.
Here’s hoping this technology has merit.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, oil to oil.
